You may want to run yourself a copy of this Singing Category Score Sheet and than think about this; our Judges don't start with 100 points and than subtract points for performance errors and -- they don't start with zero points and than award points for great singing or visuals. Today's judges -- in many ways -- determine a performers scores the same way you do. They look -- they listen -- and than based on their lifetime of experience ( plus some category, diagnostics and calibration training) they write down a number.
As you can see the Singing Category includes five broad areas for a judges attention:
Tuning -- How frequently is the performance in tune?
Vocal Quality -- How good is the Vocal Quality of this performance?
Unity -- How frequently is every facet of this performance unified?
Expansion -- How frequently are the chords locked up, ringing and producing an ensemble sound greater than the sum of the parts?
Artistry--How frequently is the listener drawn to the emotional impact of the performance vs for example, the ensembles mastery of technique or performance distractions?
Tuning -- How frequently is the performance in tune?
