The Big Apple Mission

Our mission is twofold – that is --
The preservation of a recognized, uniquely American Musical Art Form,
Barbershop Harmony
and –
to spread the love for this Art throughout the world.

When you consider that we’ve performed in cities across the United States and Canada such as:
Washington, DC -- St. Louis -- Minneapolis -- San Francisco -- Providence -- Boca Raton -- Denver -- Hartford -- Salt Lake City -- Columbus -- Calgary -- Nashville -- Bridgeport -- Miami -- Atlanta -- Montreal – Philidelphia
and toured Saint Petersburg at the invitation of the Russian Government – we hope you’ll agree that we’re off to a pretty good start.

Still – everybody’s got to be somewhere - - and what you and we do at home – for our friends – for our community – for our City and for its people must – in some ways be a measure of who and what we really are.

The Big Apple Chorus walks its talk. And it walks it in a truly “one of a kind way” Bringing the best of Broadway to Barbershop (from the greatest city in the world) – and the Best of Barbershop to Broadway (from one of the truly greatest a cappella Art forms in the world). No one else in the world can claim this most honorable mantle.

We’re proud to represent the greatest city in the world, New York and humbled by the honors and opportunities it provides. Annually serving to honor and remember our 9/11 heroes, reaching out to our cities youth – symbolizing our cities ethnic and cultural diversity – and adding to its spiritual well being as singing ornaments on the South Street Seaports Holiday Singing Chorus Tree – are indeed special opportunities and moments that truly represent and deeply touch the heart our New York.

Sources of Income and Expenses

As a non-profit entity, the Big Apple Chorus relies on the income produced by its annual show, sponsorships and ticket sales, show program ads, fees earned by performing for other organizationsand the tax-deductible contributions provided by supportive people like you.

Manhattan is not the lowest cost home for this kind of a non-profit organization. Our Chorus dues is $60/per man per year ($30 for Seniors). Multiply that by 118 dues paying members and the total can’t even pay our meeting space rent. Given these realities – we are expanding our sponsorship program in the hope to raise some of the funds we need to support our mission.

Please consider:

$ the recurring expenses for our Rehearsal Space at the Norman Thomas High
School that absorbs more then our total membership dues,

$ the money required to engage the artists who craft our a cappella arrangements, supporting choreography and provide the coaching required for us to rank among
the best a cappella choruses in the world,

$ travel expenses incurred to Compete at regional United States and International Level competitions,

$ the transportation expenses incurred to simply bring the chorus together for performances such as our annual September 11th appearance on the New York Library steps,

$ the cost of International Travel to spread the joy, the common bond of music and this American Art form throughout the world,

$ the cost of purchasing, maintaining and replacing fundamentals such as chorus risers, performance and informal traveling attire, sound and recording equipment, staging props – and much more.

So please -- if you feel as others do – that this Art form is worth preserving – and that the Big Apple Chorus and its activities are worthy of your support – then please do contribute whatever you can – whenever you can.

Thank you for your consideration.
