Auditions for the Big Apple Chorus are ongoing. Selections are currently focused on strengthening the appropriate balance of voice parts so critical to producing the extraordinary harmonics and expanded sound characterized by world class ensembles. While successful applicants frequently possess little if any prior a cappella ensemble performance experience -- that experience often produces notable advantages.

In addition to initially filling a good number of open bass and tenor positions -- the chorus will be identifying those leads, baritones, basses and tenors processing the qualities necessary to perform numerous feature voice parts. The Big Apple's repertoire currently includes wonderful opportunities in its "Man of La Mancha" and "West Side Story" performance sets as well as in stand alone presentations of "Send In The Clowns", "I Will Go Sailing No More" and others.

Who Are These Guys?

Whoever first said “there’s only one Big Apple” was most assuredly referring to the greatest city in the world – New York. Now – we’d like to think that if that silver tongued devil were to visit Manhattan – he or she would say – “there’s only one Big Apple Chorus”.

Since it’s beginnings – the Big Apple Chorus – has been blessed with innovative leaders whose vision of “Bringing the Best of Broadway to Barbershop and the Best of Barbershop to Broadway” – has created one of the most surprising and entertaining a cappella choruses in the world.

The BAC is -- without a doubt -- one of the most fun loving chapters in the Barbershop Harmony Society. Living in New York City presents the BAC with a pile of unique opportunities -- which we enjoy immensely -- and some would say joyfully exploit -- as we insert a little "Noo Yawk" attitude into all of our performances."Hey -- you got a problem wid dat?"

When it was founded in 1983 no one could have imagined that the Big Apple Chorus was going to make the kind of impact that would propel it through over 25 years of extraordinary musical performances. Its members have always been, after all, just ordinary men – husbands, sons, fathers and brothers. And – most have no formal musical training.

Our members hail from New York City, of course, but they also travel from Northern and Southern New Jersey, Connecticut, Westchester, the entire span of Long Island and from as far North as Saratoga Springs, New York.

They come from every walk of life – students, teachers, laborers, professionals, executives and retirees – with an ethnic and cultural diversity that mirrors the great city our chorus so proudly represents – New York!
