The Road to Denver

With our debut, at Symphony Space of " The Cotton Club Set" (a medley of Cab Calloway songs and Billie Holiday's, "God Bless the Child") behind us, the Big Apple Chorus is poised to take the show on the road. We will be bringing this new contest package to the international stage and competition in Denver this July.

Our annual show was our first opportunity to perform for the public these two spectacular, original arrangements by Tom Gentry. Chorus Director, Joe Hunter's dramatic vision was brought physically to life with choreography, conceived "outside of the box" by Christine Obec and interpretive dancer, Steve Adams. Additionally, Gabe Butler effectively embodied Cab Calloway. the bigger-than-life King of Hi Dee Ho, while Cecil Brown does a roll on cameo as Fats Waller and Director Joe Hunter appears as an uncanny Paul Whiteman, King of Jazz, look alike!

The International competition and convention give the Big Apple Chorus an opportunity to share its trademark New York/Broadway spin on Barbershop with over 10,000 welcoming but savvy harmony aficionados.

Harmony College East- June 14-17th:
An Amazing Place for Singers to Grow

Guests and first time visitors to the Manhattan Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society don't usually know just how deep and wide the iceberg below the surface is that anchors it's shining top, The Big Apple Chorus. In fact, the Big Apple Chorus is a small part of an amazing, expansive and tremendously supportive organization filled with talent, tools, resources and opportunities for the avocational male singer of every age. It's a little hard to get your arms around just how vast (yes, vast) the opportunities are in just a few casual, Monday night visits.

Harmony College East might give you an idea of what is in store and accessible to the members of The Big Apple Chorus, the 800 other chapters and 30,000 men in B.H.S.

On June 14-17 at Salisbury University in Salisbury, MD several hundred members of B.H.S. chapters, like Manhattan's, will come from about a 200-mile radius to participate in Harmony College and Director's College East. Full Story...
