The vision of director, Joe Hunter, the music team of the Big Apple Chorus and its members never let competition get in the way of its mission to entertain nor its long reputation for bringing, memorable, progressive high level performances to the world's Barbershop Harmony aficionados.

So, when the BAC garnered the qualification to be one of only three choruses representing the Barbershop Society's Mid Atlantic District at the up-coming international competition this July, Mr. Hunter decided not to play it safe.
For barbershop singers the world over, there are few goals or honors more alluring, daunting or exciting than the opportunity to perform, entertain and compete at a BHS Annual International Convention.
As a result, the chorus is energized by the challenge of bringing new, exclusive, arrangements and bold original, Broadway-style choreography together with the jazz music of Cab Calloway, in the same way they did, last year, in their homage to Elvis Presley.
The convention, this year will be held in Denver Colorado and will be attended by about 10,000 participants and spectators. The competition will include a field of upwards of 30 competitive choruses culled (by a cycle of preliminary qualifying competitions) out of 800 male Barbershop choruses worldwide.

Laugh at the little jobs, but blowing the pitch is more than tooting a little harmonica. There are hours of unflagging attention to the director and instantly identifying the key of every section of every song. It barely hints at the focus and dedication exemplified to our chorus by our featured pitch-blowing BACmen, Dick White.Full Story...
Every year, and perhaps as many as 3 times a year, a chorus goes into competition to find out how it measures against its peers. Why? Read this article from the Barbershop Harmony Society to learn about these conventions!
