Once again the Big Apple Chorus is proud and delighted to be engaged by the management of New York's historic South Street Seaport to grace the landmark Fulton Market Square with holiday music. The BAC will be the featured performers on the giant living Christmas tree (the first of the trees to be formally lighted in the city) for the holidays. The shows will be hosted by no less than jolly St. Nick himself. Santa will, once again, be ready with plenty of candy canes for children young and old!
Starting Nov. 24th and each Friday, Saturday and Sunday until Christmas Eve, the BAC will perform two FREE shows daily (Fri. at 6PM and 7PM, Sat. and Sun. at 3PM and 4PM) at the outdoor square at Fulton and Water St. (Inside the pier 17 mall on rain days). Dress warmly and take in the seasonal glow of the heart of old New York.
During these performances, representatives of the Big Apple Chorus will be available with information for men and women who want to sing. The Big Apple Chorus holiday CD, The Chorus Tree Collection will be available for purchase.

The performing arm of Manhattan Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, The Big Apple Chorus will begin 2007 and the new year (its 23rd) with an ambitious and exciting agenda for both its members and its audiences.
The Chapter's music team has renewed its commitment to ambitious, quantifiable and satisfying artistic growth, beyond craft, without sacrificing any of the chapter's ample fraternity and fun. Full Story...
There are many shows, conventions and competition that the Big Apple Chorus will look forward to in 2007. For barbershop singers the world over, there are few goals or honors more alluring, daunting or exciting than the opportunity to perform, entertain and compete at a BHS Annual International Convention. The convention, this year to be held in Denver Colorado in July, will be attended by about 10,000 participants and spectators. The competition will include a field of upwards of 30 competitive choruses culled (by a cycle of preliminary qualifying competitions) out of 800 male Barbershop choruses world-wide.
Among the many distinctions and rewards the BAC garnered in 2006 (among them) were qualifying scores high enough to be one of three choruses to represent the Barbershop Society's Mid Atlantic District in Denver. The District covers parts of NY and 6 other surrounding states. While the BAC attention for 2007 will be focused on new repertoire, as well as on higher levels of artistry and craft, our eyes will surely be, on the prize while enjoying all the fun along the way.
Because New York City is an international crossroad, the Manhattan Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society is distinguished, proud (and frankly lucky) to be a second home to many singers from around the world who are also Big Apple Chorus members.
Active, contributing members of the Big Apple Chorus have included exchange students on international visas, foreign professionals on long-term work assignment as well as new and aspiring US citizens. One of the chapter's earliest members (Ed Dolan) was, for years, a weekly commuter to New York from his home in England where he was also an active member of a British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS).chapter. Ed was able to accomplish this extraordinary feat because he worked for an airline. Yet it shows the incredible dedication many of our members bring to our organization. Full Story...

The existence of a Manhattan Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, its colorful approach to musical entertainment and the encouraging, high spirited atmosphere of fraternity and learning, felt by its members was indelibly minted in the friendship, respect and complementary wits of two of its founding members: Director Joe Hunter and his best friend, and artistic co-conspirator and quartet mate, Roger Payne.Full Story...
