We lost our dear brother Ed Waesche after weeks and months of a
protracted battle with a fast-growing lymphoma. This was Ed's third incident of cancer and was simply too much, too fast for any real hope of survival.
Ed's contributions to The Society were boundless, but none so
remarkable as his service as a Music judge and arranger. We will miss him terribly.

The BHS: Manhattan Chapter is particularly proud that Big Apple Chorus based quartet, Reveille competed at the annual Mid Atlantic International Preliminary qualifying contest held in Cherry Hill NJ. this March; as a result, they qualified (with a score of 78.4) to compete at the Barbershop Harmony Society's annual International convention and quartet competition. Yes, Indeed, we're breaking up after nine, fun-filled years! Nine years with the same guys in a quartet is a pretty amazing thing. It's not because of a falling out either; we never fought…that's amazing too. Nine years, same guys…never argued (well, not really). Amazing indeed! How could it have been?
I always marveled how I (an ornery, hot headed, opinionated, ethnicish kind of New Yawker) could have come to associate regularly and love these three different, WASPy, mild mannered, gentlemen. The Manhattan Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society presented the Big Apple Chorus in concert on April 8th at Alice Tully Hall. The evening's all a cappella program included popular American standards and homage to Elvis Presley and the city of New Orleans.
2005 International medalists, OC Times was featured as the guest barbershop quartet. Also performing was Reveille (International qualifiers), 'Round Midnight (Winners of the New York Regional Harmony Sweeps), Greenwich Av and Manhattan Music Company.
By all accounts and the audience reponse the show was a tremendous success. The evening was presented by Scott Brannon, Master of Ceremonies.
This month we feature a member of our Chapter who has been an active in the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS) for nearly 35 years and is a dye-hard quartet singer since the age of 21.
